VW ID. Space Vizzion set to debut at LA Auto Show
Volkswagen are set to debut their latest car in the ID range on November 19th, the eve of the Los Angeles Motor show, with this startling new concept, with the equally startling name of the ID. Space Vizzion- a new fully electric vehicle for the next generation. According to Volkswagen, this new offering is a "wagon of tomorrow that combines the aerodynamic characteristics of a grand tourer with the spaciousness of an SUV". In other words, it's a new, improved crossover model for the suburban market. Based on Volkswagen's Modular Electric Drive Matrix platform, this combined with the aerodynamic styling will give the ID. Space Vizzion a range of around 590 kilometres- some serious legs for a car set to debut in a few days' time.
Inside, there's a generous amount of space, with this car being aimed towards the upper class, outdoorsy types rather than the small city market that cars such as the ID.3 is aimed towards. A huge infotainment centre takes up much of the centre console, and shows that the time of buttons and dials are coming to an end in favour of much sleeker hardware. The car has clearly been designed with families in mind, as it is reported to seat seven people with an ample amount of room to spare. And in case the electric motor wasn't enough to sway those with the environment in mind, the upholstery is not made from the hide of a farm animal, but instead with a new material called "AppleSkin", an artifical leather with a proportion of apple juice residue.
To the Head of Design at Volkswagen, Klaus Bischoff, the new ID lineup represents "what is possible with electric vehicles in each known car category. "With the ID. SPACE VIZZION we create a new, fully electric segment". The production model is set to be released in 2021, with the different versions varying from where you buy it (North America, Europe and China will be the main markets for this car).
