Want to be Mario Andretti in an Alfa Romeo?

Now you can own that perfect automotive combination buying Andretti's former GTV-6 on sale for $48,000

Mario Andretti might be the greatest racing driver of all time. He won the Formula One world championship, won the IndyCar championship four times, and won the Indy 500. While driving for the Alfa Romeo F1 team in 1981 Andretti appeared in GTV-6 advertising. In fact, there was even an Andretti Edition GTV-6, although that wasn't given to Andretti. One was, though, and documents show he kept for a year.

With just under 36,000 miles on the odometer, this car is in great condition. The 2.5-liter DOHC V6 is mated to a five-speed manual, and the car features such luxuries as electric windows, air conditioning, and a cassette player. It features Alfa's Grigio grey paint over a tan leather interior.

The car failed to sell at RM Sotheby's in May, with the highest bid of $28,000 not meeting reserve. However, current sellers at LBI Limited think that the $7000 of recent repairs they've done can bring up the value to $48,000.

  • Just find me the gold Lotus Esprit S2 he drove to the Long Beach GP in 78. My unaware girlfriend at the time walked out in from of him as he was entering the team parking area and she got a honk out of Mario.

  • Too expensive. Unless the model has some serious heritage a 2.5 GTV6 is should never be more than £30k no matter the condition. If we were talking about a 3.0 then I'd be more optimistic but not for this engine.

  • Mario was the great driver, not Marco.
