Watch as 'Need For Speed' becomes reality in amazing video
Need for Speed IRL? Yes please
For most car enthusiasts, games are a great way of indulging our passion for motoring. In fact, be it the law, a worry of crashing or the funds required to own crazy cars, games allow us to indulge in car-based goodness. They let us recreate ideas we have but can’t quite perform in the real world. Seemingly not content with living out automotive fantasies in a digital world, a group of creatives in Russia led by chekunov_v on Instagram has managed to recreate the Need For Speed game in the *real* world.
Not only is the crazy, backwards idea a stroke of pure genius, the video is really well executed and shows the effort the creators put into it. The editing is seamless, the effects are just like the game and I can’t even begin to imagine how the camera work was done.
The clip starts out in a car selection menu screen showing off the video maker’s skills as the car’s colour and wheels are modified. Once the blue Celica is ready for the road, the loading screen shows off its best angles before the ‘player’ takes to the streets of Russia.
He is then joined by his mates all in traditional Need For Speed cars such as an RX-7, an Integra Type-R and a Subaru WRX STI, all of which are modified in the NFS style with aftermarket wheels, lowered stances and huge wings. The group lines up on the start line of a race just as the camera switches back to the arcade view from behind the car.
The combination of the music, the slightly shaky camera angle at high speeds and HUD in the bottom right corner of the screen takes me back to when I’d sit in front of the TV playing Need For Speed Undercover on the PS2. Those were the good old days. ..
