The 2nd of May is the day we remember Henri Toivonen and his co-driver Sergio Cresto as it was this day in 1986 that they died on Corsica while competing in a Lancia Delta S4. The pair's accident is associated with the end of Group B, but it's Toivonen's driving in something older and less extreme that I particularly love watching. A Talbot Sunbeam was the car that he drove to a famous victory in the 1980 RAC rally and this footage of him driving one on a Rallysprint in 1981 is just brilliant. I've highlighted his second run, but if you've got the time then I heartily recommend settling down to watch the whole thing.

  • Great video Henry. Such a shame, Toivonen was sure to achieve greatness, such a talented guy. And great to see him in the Sunbeam. Something really special about the cars from this simpler time. Maybe if the WRC wanted spectacle, they should have simplified things, not added complexity.
