Just listen to that BMW roar. And enjoy the insane video quality.

The Williams FW25 is an underrated car. Montoya and Ralf Schumacher took it to four pole positions and four victories in a very competitive 2003 season. Montoya was in championship contention until very late in the season and was regularly challenging Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen.

In the famous one-shot qualifying system, Montoya delivered this fantastic lap in Germany that you can watch in Full-HD, 1440p below. The BMW engine really kills headphone users, I should warn you.

  • Forget the V10 and quali format: let's acknowledge that Juan Pablo Montoya is Jon Bois-grade Pretty Good at Formula 1 racing.

    • It would also probably add a few of its own, track evolution would play a huge role so whoever gets out last could have as much as a second advantage on some tracks. Plus, it would ultimately mean a lot less hot laps being done

  • I think F1 should genuinely think about making a return to one-lap qualifying or trying out a system like they have in Formula E and IndyCar where qualifying is done in groups. On a grid with 20 drivers, you could do a group qualifying system in two groups of 10 with the fastest 5 in each group going through to a "fast ten" where they have to use the softest tyre option (unless it's a wet session) like how it is with the current system in Q3.

F1 should also give out bonus points for qualifying, even if it's just 1 extra point for whoever gets pole position.

    • That's interesting, I remember F2 did a very clever system like that in Monaco.

  • And for darn sure they should reinstate one shot. No more of this stupid queuing at the pit exit, no more screwing up competitors’ laps, no more “strategy” sabotage BS. And most of all, only one car is affected if there’s a crash and red flag.
