The 2020 edition of the Dakar ended with a surprise as a special guest joined the party. Known for his performance at the Gymkhana, Ken Block got behind the wheel of the prototype of the future electric vehicle that will be used in the Dakar. These vehicles, called Odyssey 21, will thus race in the Extreme E category.

The Odyssey 21s were designed by several companies such as Spark Racing Technology, Erik Buell, Williams Advanced Engineering and Continental Tires. After several years of development, the Odyssey 21s are ready and will start competing in the Dakar next year.

Like any good sports electric vehicle, the Odyssey 21 will offer outstanding performance, especially off-road, where it will be in its element. Its motor develops 550 bhp and 1,016 Nm of torque. The tubular steel alloy chassis makes the vehicle lighter at 1,646 kg. The vehicle accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds.

The calendar for the Extreme E category is particularly busy for this first year of participation. The Odyssey 21 will be venturing, for example, into the Arctic or the tropical jungle. In this video, Ken Block shares his first impressions at the wheel of the electric competition SUV.

    • Yep. That's what I thought. He couldn't win a race, even if he was the only one in it.😂
