Watch: Start your day right with a screaming straight-piped C8 Corvette

YouTube is an amazing place, where just about anybody can create content for the whole world to enjoy. Naturally, this means that there will be videos that divide opinions and cause disagreements... perhaps this is one of those videos.

The Chevrolet C8 Corvette Stingray is an opinion-divider in itself; With Chevrolet moving away from the traditional front-engined, rear-drive layout to a mid-engined layout, with the associated styling changes and dynamics that come with this shift - dividing opinions as to whether this is the shape of progress, or simply goes against everything that is traditional and great about the Corvette.

One thing that I'm sure almost everybody could agree with though is that the 6.2 litre, naturally-aspirated V8 engine that powers the C8 is a thing of beauty. Putting down 495hp through the rear wheels, the n/a V8 engine roars its way to a 7000rpm redline. With the automotive industry almost exclusively shifting to forced-induction motors to comply with new emissions laws and regulations, the C8 is one of the last great bastions of the naturally-aspirated supercar.

Naturally, you would want to hear this glorious engine as much as possible... so tuners Fabspeed have created a straight-through exhaust system for the C8, allowing you to ring out the 6.2l V8 in all its glory for your enjoyment (and to the dismay of your neighbours.)

Thankfully the exhaust in question has a remote-control valve system, allowing you to retain a socially-acceptable level of noise on cold start and whilst in built-up environments, if you want to keep your neighbours on your side. Once opened however the C8 turns into a god of thunder, with the sort of roar that a lot of owners would have wanted to see the C8 come with from factory.

It's not just about sound either; With Fabspeed stating that their valvetronic exhaust system saves 9kg over the stock exhaust fitted to the C8 from factory, whilst adding 4hp and 6 lb/ft of torque at the wheels due to the improved airflow from their exhaust.

Want to see what this new Valvetronic system sounds like? Well you're in luck. YouTuber 650ib was lucky enough to receive his C8 Corvette before the Coronavirus shutdown put deliveries on hold, and it didn't take long for the C8 to receive the aforementioned exhaust, along with a matte red wrap.

Whether you're a fan of the aesthetic changes to the C8 or not, there's no denying this exhaust system sounds the business. Let us know what you think in the comments below!

  • To be honest I think this is the best American car to rival the Europeans since the Ford GT which came out 15 years ago
