Watch: Tesla Model S Plaid almost flies off dyno during testing

That's all thanks to its insane instant torque

8w ago

Ever since Tesla announced the Model S Plaid last year, the world has gone mental for it โ€“ mostly due to its insane horsepower and torque figures. Tesla claims it produces 1,020 horsepower and 1,050 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to hit 60mph in just 1.9 seconds. So naturally, someone had to test this out.

It takes some serious courage to stick one of these on a dyno because its instant torque would surely mess up the machine, right? Well, that's exactly what happened when Dragtimes teamed up with Jack from HP Logic to give it a try.

During the first run, the car launches and starts jittering about, meaning the test has to be stopped before breaking the machine. The set-up clearly can't handle that much instant torque โ€“ something you don't get with internal combustion-engined vehicles.

  • Shame it didn't fly off ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Never mind, maybe it'll spontaneously combust on the drive home ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

  • Ridiculously powerful I'm sure, but 3 turns lock to lock with a plane yoke? And I can guarantee I'd have more fun in an old Mini.

  • Wow...that speedo seems to stutter during the pull like it can't keep up. That thing is silly-fast for a sedan. ๐Ÿ˜€

  • He's testing the Tesla on the dyno right in front of a freaking GTR R34! Wtf!? What if crap happens and it smashed that masterpiece.

  • Plainly not impressed ๐Ÿฅฑ( whatโ€™s for food time thoughts ) swinging more to it just looked dodgy to be honest ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Iโ€™ve seen 1.9L+Dieselโ€™s look more impressive in a Dyno
