Watch the Aston Martin Rapide E make UK dynamic debut at Goodwood
After Aston Martin removed the covers from its all-electric Rapide E, it very quickly took it to the Monaco Street Circuit to make its official dynamic debut during the Formula E weekend in May.
Just a few months later, the company’s first EV has return to the tarmac, this time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where it made its UK dynamic debut.
The Aston Martin Rapide E is a limited production car of just 155 examples. The car’s goal is to showcase what the Gaydon based car manufacturer can do with EV technology before launching it into larger volume products. During the Festival of Speed, the car showed its true colours by eating up the road.
Thanks to its electric drivetrain, the Rapide E has an impressive 950Nm of torque and 601hp making it the most powerful model in the current Rapide lineup. Unlike other electric vehicles, it is simply rear wheel drive keeping the Rapide’s GT-like driving characteristics.
Despite lacking all-wheel-drive, it can still keep up with the likes of the Tesla Model S as it is able to reach 60mph from a standstill in less than four seconds. It’s unknown how fast the car will really go if pushed flat-out due to a 155mph electronic speed limiter presumably in place to give the car a reasonable range. In fact, the 65kWh battery provides enough power for a range of over 200 miles.
Although electric cars carry much more weight than cars powered by combustion engines, the Aston Martin Rapide E seems very much at home on the twisty Goodwood hillclimb course.
