Watch the McLaren P1 LM drive up Pikes Peak
While the Nurburgring’s production car lap record currently resides with the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, there is one perfectly road legal car that has lapped the green hell faster. And that car is the McLaren P1 LM.
The product of British company Lanzante, the LM is essentially a P1 GTR that’s been legalised for road use, and been improved upon with the addition of enhanced aerodynamic aids, and the removal of 132lbs (60kg) in weight. As a result, whereas the Lambo takes 6:44.97 to lap the green hell, the thousand horsepower McLaren can get round in 6:43.22.
Given that the McLaren produces 227bhp more than the SVJ, and weighs significantly less, you would be forgiven for being underwhelmed by its mere 1 and a quarter second advantage. But at this performance point, it becomes less about the car’s capabilities, and more about the size of the driver’s testicles.
There lies only a select handful of proving grounds on earth that a person could define as being more dangerous than the Nurburgring - but Pikes Peak would definitely be one of them. And in the video you can see at the end of this article, the P1 LM goes for a blast up the legendary mountain course.
While the video may not show it being driven particularly quickly, it is still entertaining. And besides, I’m willing to place a bet that anybody who moans about the pace of the run wouldn’t be able to do any better if it were them in the driver’s seat. See for yourself.
