Watch the Plymouth Prowler go from ugly duckling to elegant swan

Has TheSketchMonkey fixed the Plymouth Prowler?

Designed in the 1990s, the Plymouth Prowler is considered one of the ugliest cars ever built. Its hot-rod-esque body shocked the world that, at the time, was used to a certain style of car.

Instead of following the norm to make its new sporty roadster, Plymouth decided to take the lead off its designers and create a 1930s hot rod inspired car. Unfortunately, mixed with the design language of the time, the Prowler ended up looking more ‘fat house cat’ than ‘lean panther’.

Feeling inspired, industrial and car designer TheSketchMonkey decided to redesign the Prowler as if it was created today.

With the aim of creating a more usable Prowler, TheSketchMonkey has slightly shortened the front bonnet opting for more space in the cabin and boot instead. The whole front end has become a lot pointier giving it more purpose than the original, round fronted car.

Along with a sharper front end, this new Prowler has gained a more refined rear end with a roof that swoops into the curvature of the boot lid as opposed to the slightly awkward soft top arrangement of the 1990s design.

Personally, I feel like this design is very good looking although, I’m not sure how to feel about the exposed front wheels. That was the main point that bugged me with the original car. It would be nice to see a version of this design with covered wheels. Let me know what you think of the design and if it’s an improvement over Plymouth’s original.
