Watch this Porsche 911 GT2 RS demolish a Lamborghini Aventador S in a drag race
While you would expect a 911 victory on circuit, in a straight line, you would predict the Lamborghini to pull away gradually. In practice however...
Amongst the maelstrom of horsepower and acronyms that is the Porsche 911 range, the GT2 RS is the fastest of the entire breed. While there are some that elect to negatively view the GT2 RS as a car entangled within its own sports car origins and limitations, there are also those graced with the gift of more accurate observation who see the GT2 RS for what it is: an absolutely magnificent supercar!
Ultimately however, no matter how much Porsche have honed and perfected the 991 into becoming the GT2 RS, the fact that it’s still a 911 results in it lacking the collective exclusivity that some supercar buyers look for. Some people want a supercar that screams in people’s faces as it thunders down the road, while leaving them awestruck when they see it pass by in a blur of brightly coloured willy-shrinking paint. Naturally then, these people tend to gravitate towards buying a Lamborghini Aventador.
Even in its basic S trim, the Aventador appears to reach to the next performance level beyond the GT2 RS. With a 6.5L normally aspirated V12, the Aventador sends 730bhp to all four wheels; whereas the 911 uses a much smaller 3.8L Twin-Turbo Flat-6, sending 691bhp to its rear wheels only. While the Porsche may be the lighter car of the two, it dedicates itself very much to lap times, as oppose to the Lamborghini that focuses more on straight line speed. Presumably then, if the two cars were to meet for a drag race, you would expect something resembling a mini-massacre to unfold.
In the video that can be viewed below, the race that ensues between the GT2 RS and Aventador S indeed proves to be a total annihilation - but rather than the Lamborghini’s arse gradually vanishing, the Porsche somehow manages to pull away from the Aventador like it’s broken down. I genuinely haven’t been this astonished by a drag race for some time. Despite the Lamborghini’s apparent straight-line advantages, the Porsche doesn’t just beat it - it comprehensively embarrasses it!
Following on from this race, I think there’s only one way forward: GT2 RS vs Aventador SVJ. The former ‘Ring record holder, vs the raging bull that snatched its title. Now, that would be one hell of a race!
