Goodwood Festival Of Speed

The Goodwood Festival of Speed may have come and gone, but I still can't stop looking back at the highlights. Meeting with Rimac and going up the hill climb in their Concept_One was definitely one of them.

My scheduled ride was at 4PM on the Thursday so after having a quick initial browse of the festival, I headed over to the supercar paddock which was simply heaven. Upon entering the paddock which was filled with the best of the best supercars and myself feeling like a kid in a candy store, I spotted the Rimac stand and met up with Marta who introduced me to rest of the Rimac team. Of course the first thing we did was have banter about was the 'incident'

After I had finished admiring and drooling over the supercar, it was time to squish my cheeks in the helmet (my colleague Sofia still keeps laughing at the photo) and get ready for the ride which I had been excited for ever since Marta's email inviting me. However it was not a matter of just getting in the supercar and going straight away, there was actually a long pile of queue. But this was the no ordinary queue and is probably the only queue I've never complained about in my life. This was essentially a supercar traffic jam and no matter where you looked, you could just see the supercars everywhere! So in good company, Rimac's test driver Miro took me through every aspect of the supercar whilst we waited and I was definitely impressed to see how technological advanced this Croatian supercar was, letting you select the exact performance you want. Some of these things I definitely wasn't aware of so do have a look below.

When it was finally clear to go on the track to get to the start line, Miro warmed up the tires and gave me a preview of what the car is capable of. I have to say this is definitely not only one of the fastest cars I've ever been in but also one of my favourites and I've been lucky enough to have driven or been given a ride in quite some cars including a Bugatti Veyron.

And finally, below is a timed hillclimb footage of the Concept_One with just Miro inside to show the performance of the supercar rather than showing my footage where I added some extra weight slowing down the car. As you'll see in the video, it may be quiet but you can clearly see how powerful the car is. Obviously Rimac did not want to go all out to go for the overall record in the timed run as it was a customer's car which was respectful of them, so they took it easy with 60% power and 40% state of charge yet still managed an impressive time of 54.89 seconds. This time actually meant that the Concept_One set and now holds the record for the the fastest EV time of Goodwood Festival of Speed.

To remind you about the $1.2million Rimac Concept_One, only 8 units were planned to be produced which were all sold out. The supercar comes with 1224hp and weighs only 1900kg resulting in a top speed of 355 kph and 0-100kph in 2.5 seconds, 0-200kph in 6 seconds and 0-300kph in just 14 seconds. However that being said, if you had the opportunity would you pick an electric concept_one or something else?
