The corner worker killed in an accident during a rental track day event at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca on October 14 has been identified as Edward Richard Reins, 68, of Moss Landing, California. The Richard Reins Benevolence Fund has been established to support his family and pay for expenses.

“Reins was a familiar and friendly personality at racetracks, and particularly WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, and always arrived early for shifts to enjoy the camaraderie of his fellow workers and racers,” read a statement from the track announcing the fund. “Reins’ passion for motorsports began as a driver, and then transitioned into being a corner worker for his love of the sport and people. He had 40 years’ experience as a corner worker and was a SCCA track official since 2005. He first joined SCCA in 1975.

“The outpouring of support from course workers, marshals and the racing community nationwide was swift. To honor Reins and facilitate financial support for his family, the Laguna Seca Raceway Fund, the 501(c)3 non-profit charitable organization for the raceway, has established a special benevolent fund for those wishing to donate money to the family of Richard Reins.

“All funds received will go to the Reins family to provide support with expenses.”
