We know that fun cars supposed to be, you know, fun as the Mazda MX5 (NA) or maybe the Porsche 981 Cayman. But those are old cars, we're now talking about this year's cars about what are exactly the real "Fun cars" and how can we tell them.

First of all, how do you call those cars, Fun cars?

Well Fun cars are mostly cars less than 500 horsepower and really cheap like the 2012 Mercedes C63 AMG or maybe the Porsche 911 (997). They can be in a sedan or a two door coupe or convertible like two cars I mentioned. They can be really slow I know but they both have Rear Wheel Drive means they can be used as drifting. Plus, those cars have easy handling and they have really great engines. You can waste your time just drifting with these cars as long as you like or take a long road trip with your beloved fun car.

The most bought fun car is a Mazda MX5 and also the Porsche Cayman because they are surprisingly cheap and they both can be in convertible option (if you want a Convertible Cayman, buy a Boxster) and also they both are mostly tuned while I recommended you to tune the Cayman or Boxster in the 981 generation.

Now back to the question, what are exactly fun cars today?

You might already know, most car manufactures are now talking about zero-to-sixty and lap times today like the Porsche or maybe Mercedes. They are now making their cars going zero-to-sixty less than 3 seconds and give them the corner speed to 20% or making their car lighter. Seriously, are these what fun cars have to do?

Luckily, the Mazda MX5 Miata is still a fun car, which is great adding with the Cayman. But the cars like the new C63 AMG won't be fun anymore since they are now made for lap times and performance. Like seriously why did they give this car more performance and less fun. It's not even fun anymore.

What's also happening in this era are also electric cars era. The electric car production is spreading wide (thanks to Elon Musk) like the Alfa Romeo and Audi since they announced that they'll be fully electric brands and many people started buying that but it has one thing missing, the engine and the noise. Electric cars don't have a V8 neither a inline 6. Just imagine a Lamborghini Murcielago SV (the best sounding V12 car) as a full electric car. The car lost it's engine and the loud noise and revs from that car.

Only the car brands that makes the best fun cars are Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Toyota and Porsche in my opinion but despite that Porsche is also making track cars that make the cars into corners that makes the Cayman and the Boxster, less fun even though they're in a cheap price of $59,990. These car almost not fun cars and now they are track cars. MX5 is small and cheap with 95 horsepower but it's Rear Wheel Drive and it can perform multiple stunts and donuts and has $26,580 and it's a huge YES for everyone. It's also one of the most reliable sports cars ever and so is the Subaru WRX STI and the BMW M2.

So which cars are exactly fun cars today?

If I were talking about fun cars, we have to talk about how can we classify the fun cars first. It must have good reliability, not like really fast and must have less than 500 horsepower. Any models can be classified as fun cars.

The cars I can classify as fun cars are:

Porsche 718 Cayman

Mazda MX5 Miata

Most fun car

Most fun car

Ford Focus and Fiesta

Jaguar F Type Convertible

Subaru WRX STI

Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

Finally, Subaru BRZ

I know there are some cars that haven't been mentioned in the list but if you have some fun cars, tell us in the comments.

Do you agree of my list? Tell me if you agree and if you don't, just disagree.

  • I put Giulia, but the Ariel Atom and Caterham 7 deserve a mention too. They're the purest, funnest cars out there.

  • I'll Suzuki Swift Sport - no high tech, just a light and affordablw go-kart powered by a healthy NA engine. Hyundai really nailed with the N series, although after i30 the design deterioted into overdone. But still, nice.
