What Can Brown Do For You?: Hot Wheels '36 Cord 810 Beverly in "Clay Rust" Paint
An iconic classic car in an unusual color.
Real car in "Clay Rust" coloration. According to Diecast Hall of Famer/well known designer Mac Ragan, it is exceedingly unlikely that any diecast company with Cord castings will release one in Clay Rust, because "brown cars don't sell".
This project began as a black mainline Hot Wheels '36 Cord and a selection of parts (dash/steering wheel, axles, wheels, tires) from a metal fatigue/paint loss victim Racing Champions Mint '37 Cord 812 Phaeton. Soon after, the casting was stripped & the interior assembled, painted & detailed.
The casting was then painted in the rare earthtone metallic shade known as "Clay Rust", with all the factory details done. The body had been thoroughly deseamed beforehand. It reassembled uncomplicatedly, and produced a nice end result. Many members of the #liveandletdiecast Tribe and Facebook group saw my similar build in blue over grey in the 2021 #isolationislandconcours , and it's nice to have another in a truly rare color scheme.
