What do I think about car branded phones?
As we all know, car manufacturers are constantly trying to impress the world with their latest and greatest technology but car branded phones are a different ball game which I think are pointless.
Of course they are basically just a normal phone but cost all that more just because they have a car logo on the back.
Land Rover Explore
I would like to start with the Land Rover phone as it’s the one I hate least and at least this one serves a purpose. This phone is designed for the Land Rover owner who takes his car off-roading at the weekends in Scotland. This is the sort of scenario where he can leave his iPhone at home and take this with him to get muddy and cold. It’s a good idea but is it at all necessary when he’s probably just driving over a couple pebbles in the lake district?
This phone is around £600 which I think is acceptable
Ferrari edition Vertu Ti
This is one that annoys me. The company Vertu has often made phones for Ferrari in the past and often bring out these ‘limited edition’ models. This phone is ‘apparently’ suppose to resemble a Ferrari F12, let me just clarify that and say that it doesn’t. On what earth does it?! It has been covered in leather and a diamond like coating which goes over the carbon fibre and aluminium body which is if truth be told, absolutely revolting.
But of course, in Ferrari like fashion, this phone is around £7,000, I’m done.
Oppo Find X Lamborghini Edition
Another phone which is stupid is the Oppo Find Lamborghini edition. I’m sure it’s a good phone but what on earth is it doing with a Lamborghini logo on the back? You know it’s going to be unreliable and will break.
It may charge up in 35 minutes but I don’t care because I am not spending £1,100 on this!
Vertu Bentley edition
If you thought it couldn’t get worse, it just has. This hideous piece of tech does not deserve to have a Bentley badge on the back. What is this? This isn’t a collaboration; this is an insult to Bentley. I can’t look at this anymore.
Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.... this costs £9,000...
To conclude, please, please, please do not buy an overpriced car branded phone unless you really need to or you’re a wally. If any of you are wondering why I haven’t included any Porsche design phones is because at least those don’t look as hideous as these. On the whole they are kept fairly tasteful, apart from this one….
