What do you think I should do?

I am 21 and will be learning to drive within the next year (C-19 permitting). There are some specific cars that I have always wanted (a fast/fun estate or off roader). Now, I know that the used car market will still have plenty of diesel and petrol cars for years to come but I guess I'm asking for your opinions.

Do you think I should try to get these sort of cars that i have always wanted since I was small and maybe convert it to electric when the tax or fuel becomes too expensive.

Or do you think I should give in and drive the old, small and boring hatchback on my driveway and then buy an electric car when told to.

  • A small sedan like a Civic or Camry or a Sonata. Make sure it's a manual. Also don't get anything too new. 2010 and down are fine. I have a 2009 Sonata that is my first car and I think it is great for a first car.

  • I’ve always been a firm believer that your first car should be cheap and old as you’re bound to have an accident and the newer/ more expensive you go, the more financial trouble that the car will put you in during the “oh shit” moments

  • I think you should buy whatever you want and when the future comes buy a cheap hatchback to daily drive and keep your dream car to drive on special occasions.

  • How much money do you have? Can you afford an expensive car, including maintenance? You should start off with the old car because you don't know how good/bad you are at driving, but later on you should get a better car.

    • I can't afford new that's for sure but I could afford something from the past 10 years or a classic from the 80s

    • Yeah, get something cool. Electric cars are lame.
