Sponsorship money is what drives NASCAR. And the second largest rental car company in America is one of the last big companies that opened its checkbook to NASCAR.
The company originally signed as a sponsor with Team Penske in 2013. The deal included a primary sponsorship for select races for several years. Friday Hertz filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.
The company them moved to Hendrick Motorsports in 2018 becoming a primary sponsor for William Byron on the No. 24 Chevy for select races. That partnership was extended late last year to run through at least 2021. They were scheduled to be a primary sponsor for four races this season.
In Friday’s Chapter 11 filing, Hendrick Motorsports was not listed among the top-50 creditors the company said owes. The team had no comment. Normally most sponsorships are done and much of the money exchanged soon after contracts are signed.
