This came up today as I'm trying to find a decent solution for mounting my phone on the dashboard so I can use the GPS. The thing is, the car I'm driving has GPS. However, like most in-built GPS systems, it's complete crap and Google maps or Apple maps is better.
Yes, we're approaching the end of the 2nd decade of the 21st century and the map in your pocket is better than the one installed in most cars. That goes for entire infotainment systems. What you carry in your pocket is better than most, and I'll bet the vast majority of us just hook to Bluetooth and listen to music and directions from our phones.
So, why hasn't an automaker figured out a way to mount our phones in a recess on the dashboard? Yes, they're all different sizes, but all the automakers R&D departments have huge budgets to employ people to figure things out.
There's another basic one. Whenever my wife gets in a car to drive, she either puts her handbag on the passenger seat or in a passenger footwell. This is not a new thing, yet nobody has come up with a solution to store a small bag for the driver. Many men have to take a bag as well, but the vast majority of women do, and as many women drive cars as men.
So, this begs the question: What feature do you think has been overlooked and you would you like to see added either as a standard feature or as an option?
