What If Volvo Made A SUV In The 80s?
The answer is 'Well, damn'.
Volvo is one of the greatest companies to have ever existed, as I'm sure we'll all agree and the 240's one of their greatest cars, as I'm sure we'll all agree on that too. The 240 was mainly great thanks to it's tank-like robust build quality and it's sleeper-ness. Sleepyness?
BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT, what if...Volvo made a SUV in the 80s? The Sketch Monkey had the same question in his mind, and his result is quite a looker, I must say.
The 240 sedan.
Now, this isn't the first time he's got his sketchy paws on the 240, but the first time he did, was to modernise the 240. This one, however, looks very boxy unlike anything in Volvo's lineup today. In place of just jacking up the suspensions and whatnot, he also heightens the body sides and adds some more rubber mouldings.
There are still strong Volvo design cues on the render- black safety bumpers and mud flaps look oh-so-Scandinavian. Moral of the story is- I love this render and think it's absolutely perfect. It is sad that this Volvo 240 SUV is going to remain a digital drawing and nothing else. That’s a shame. Maybe some enterprising custom coachbuilder can use it as inspiration, who knows.
