What Makes The ES 350 A Great Affordable Luxury Sedan?
I had the keys to this ES 350 for a week. Here are my thoughts.
Lexus has been only making the ES series has been around for over 30 years and has been the choice of luxury for people who want to not have to take a new mortgage out on their home. Te only thing I really want to know is: why? Why do people go to Lexus for luxury when Mercedes-Benz is the standard? Well, after driving it around for a week I think I can understand why. It is affordable. But when affordable and luxury are put together, the answer isn't always the most optimistic. So, what makes the ES 350 a great affordable luxury sedan? Let's find out.
Exterior Styling
"...beautiful by design..."
The exterior styling of the ES 350 is a more a relaxed and composed design. Well, with the exception of the headlights looking like they could pierce through one's soul and find their darkest secrets. The lines and curves create an elegant design in the way higher end manufacturers do. In a sense, the ES 350 is beautiful by design thanks to Lexus. The only weird thing about it is its grille, which is shaped like an odd hourglass. What is it supposed to represent? Oh well. It adds to the rest of the ES 350's styling and strangely goes with it.
Interior Design
"...nothing short of..."
The interior of the ES 350 is designed as elegantly as the exterior. The wood and leather trimmed steering wheel is the cherry on top of the interior full of leather, metal, and some wood trim that make the ES 350 feel luxurious. Hell, the analog clock is a nice piece to look at. Other manufacturers make interiors just as nice as this ES 350 but are over the price of the Lexus as well. The seats are comfortable. Space is quite abundant in the ES 350 as well. I can sit comfortably behind myself in each seat. The overall feel the ES 350 interior provides to the occupants is nothing short of luxury. Makes sense since this model is called the "Ultra Lux."
Price and Options
So, how much does this ES 350 cost? After everything being added up, the total cost comes to $53,595. What does that get someone? Well, for safety, the ES 350 comes with blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, intuitive parking assist with auto braking, rear pedestrian detection, pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, all-speed dynamic radar cruise control, lane departure alert with steering assist, multiple airbags, and panoramic detection monitor. For comfort and convenience, the ES 350 comes with an infotainment system capable of Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Bluetooth connectivity, front heated and ventilated seats, heated powered telescoping steering wheel, sat-nav, dynamic voice command, ambient lighting, wireless device charger, and a power rear sunshade.
Performance
"...without the Seasickness..."
The 3.5L V6 under the hood produces only 302 horsepower to the front wheels. With my driving habits, I was able to achieve 21 miles to the gallon. But, this isn't the highlight that the ES 350's performance shines on. It's how it rides. Since Lexus gave the ES 350 performance dampers, it adds to how great the ride comfort is for any traveling. Everything stays in place and light as if the car is floating on clouds. It handles like a boat on calm water in every case, even going in corners. Not like a Challenger in any way though, but like a yacht without the seasickness. Steering is light. Braking can be a bit of a mush and not as bitey as other cars, but that also means that you won't have your eye balls popping out of your sockets when coming to a halt in a timely fashion.

So, what makes the Lexus ES 350 a great affordable luxury sedan? It is because the Lexus offers all of the luxury feel, that is real, for a way cheaper price than the rest of the manufacturers on the market. It looks luxurious inside and out. The ride is the most comfortable I have felt in a while. Not since probably my Buick Century and no one can attest that or prove me wrong. Sure, it handles a bit untidy in corners but it is not built to tackle corners. It was made to tackle boring uncomfortable trips, be it short or far. Now I know why Lexus is great at what they do. And I should have figured with that with the LS 500h.
