What Makes The Volvo S60 A Great Road Trip Car
I rented a Volvo S60 T6 up to Canada for my honeymoon. Here is why I am glad I chose it.
The wedding was October 18, 2019. I booked for a car at Enterprise. When I got there I had a choice; It was between a Ford Fusion Hybrid for a decent price or a Volvo S60 T6 AWD for a little bit more. I chose the Volvo. The honeymoon began that very next morning at 5:45. Our destination: Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. An almost 10 hour drive from New Jersey near Philadelphia. I learned a lot about the car for that week. But what makes it a great road trip car? I shall say below.
The Volvo S60 is a luxury sedan for many. Instead of the Ford, which I was glad we didn't take, the Volvo looks a heck of a lot better. Plus, I genuinely adore the styling. But looks is not part of what makes it a great road trip car. But design takes part. And by design I meant the interior. It has tons of space. We packed several suitcases and were able to fit them in the trunk and what was left we placed in the back. We bought plenty of souvenirs that seemed like would take up all of the space, but that was not true. And yes, we did not spend over our allowance.
For a journey that takes almost 10 hours, you'd want a car that will be comfortable for the trip, right? Right. The Volvo had all of that. Sure, I was stiff getting out of the car, but nothing hurt. I wasn't uncomfortable during the drive. Only getting out once to fill up for gas before crossing the border and another for food at a McDonald's for the first food of the day. The heated seats were comfortable as was the ride. They offered support and comfort at all times. Bumps were never noticed unless they were for reducing speed. The adaptive cruise control helped when I needed to stretch my legs at times. Honestly, I can't stop saying how great the ride comfort was, especially for those hours. I felt as if I could have driven further than that.
Now, with a turbocharged four cylinder producing a whopping 316 horsepower and 295 foot pounds of torque, the Volvo S60 T6 drives smooth and has no faults. It is gentle and when confronted, it will get up and go. But for a road trip, I wanted to get the best fuel economy out of it. I only had to fill up once on the trip going there and coming back. I was able to achieve a whopping combined fuel economy of 30 miles to the gallon and I drove for over 1,500 miles total that week. Luckily it had all-wheel drive but it wasn't needed since there wasn't any snow while up in Canada.
So, what makes the Volvo S60 T6 AWD a great road trip car? It is because Volvo did a great job in giving the S60 great fuel economy, ride comfort, and interior space. These are all of the qualities that are found in a car that is necessary for a long road trip. If there wasn't any qualities in a car like this, we all would be driving Ford Fusions. Or worse, the Prius. People should be looking for road trip qualities in a car. If not, then the point of cars is just to get from A to B. Find a car worthy of a road trip to get away from everything, be it a day or a week. The Volvo S60 T6 is a car worth looking at.
Enjoy the photos I took while on honeymoon with the Volvo. Both spots are on the Saint Lawrence River. One spot is off a river following road in the Charlevoix region. The other is on Ile de Orleans, just outside of Quebec City. And remember, take a trip. You have earned it.
