Ford have announced the launch of a brand new SUV. Not just that, but the SUV will be based on the Ford Mustang, undeniably their most iconic car. And it will be electric. They've got a lot on their plate!

What do we know?

Ford have confirmed that this car will have 370 miles of range on the WLTP test. This is a large leap past the opposition, and brings it square in the face of Tesla. Ford have applied to trademark the name 'Mach-E', which would be very fitting. It will be able to charge using 150kW - once again matching Tesla.

Why is this important?

With Ford ditching the Mondeo, Fiesta and Focus in the US, it is trying to focus more on the booming crossover market. Ford were very late there, and the disappointing EcoSport, gopping Puma, mediocre Kuga and slow-selling Edge have not helped. This is also the first time a big market player has properly locked horns with Tesla and tried to beat them at their own game.

Aston Martin - venturing into a new field?

Aston Martin are launching a new SUV. But, worryingly, they are gambling the company on it. They have accumulated large debt due to the massive investment occurring at the moment, and if the DBX doesn't sell quick enough they could be in trouble.

What do we know?

The Aston Martin DBX will use the same twin turbo V8 as the new Aston Martin Vantage. In the Vantage it produces 503bhp, but in the DBX it produces 543bhp. Interior shots have been released, and once again think Vantage but more well sorted. Expect this car to be in the gist of a Macan Turbo; a proper drivers car, wrapped up in a SUV suit.

Why is this important?

Bentayga too ugly for you? Urus too large? SQ7 too cheap? Cullinan too posh? Rangie too common? Then the DBX is your only choice. (Plus it's likely to be a very good car in it's own right)

Maybe the most hyped car/truck here... the Tesla Truck. Elon Musk certainly isn't cooling the hype.

'Cybertruck doesn't look like anything i've seen bouncing around on the internet'

'It's more like an armoured personnel carrier from the future'

elon musk

What do we know?

The pickup will cost less than £39,000 ($50,000). Unusually for a new car, no prototypes have been spotted, so all renders are completely baseless. Elon claims that the truck will have between 400 and 500 miles of range, and the extended length of a vehicle like this adds more space for batteries. It will be AWD.

Why is this important?

If you are not American, then you are unlikely to, but the American pick up market is huge and lucrative. Commercially, this gives businesses the chance to look modern and reduce fleet emissions. And it adds a whole new Tesla cliente.
