What's the one and only car you could live with for the rest of your life?

Part of what makes the love of cars so great is the fact that you can love as many cars as you like and none of them with sue you for alimony. You don’t have to be bound to a single brand or car till death do you part, which gives you the freedom to indulge in your wildest fantasies. But what if you had to live with a single car for the rest of your life? What would it be?

When presented with this question, you’ll either have an immediate answer come to mind, or you’ll need to use the power of deduction and amalgamation. If, like me, you require the use of the latter method, you’ll end up starting the process by looking at your 3 car perfect garage.

The objective of doing this is to take the reason each car features in your dream garage, and look for a single car that combines all of those qualities. If your garage is anything like mine, this process will conclude with you exclaiming the words “oh fuck!” upon realising that nothing quite so perfect exists.

The scale of the commitment makes you believe that compromise should be kept to an absolute minimum, or ideally, eliminated completely. But, as anyone currently sitting with a ring on their finger will know, marriage is all about compromise.

In the pursuit of a solitary car that you could happily own for the rest of your life, the chances are, you’ll end up with a fast estate. An Audi RS6, Mercedes E63 AMG S, or even an Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo Touring. Some may wonder back through the pages of fast estate history, and pine for an Audi RS2, or even the V10-powered E61 M5. All things considered, if you could fit an E61 with a manual gearbox, it may well just be the most ideal car to see you through the rest of your days. If, that is, you don’t mind it breaking down every time there’s a month in the year. No pun intended.

But now, I have to throw the question back to you guys: what’s the one and only car that YOU could live with for the rest of your life? Let me know in the comments.
