I have confessed a number of times on my tribe that motorsport isn’t really my cup of petroleum. As much as I appreciate the amount of skill drivers must have to pilot such terrifyingly fast cars around circuits with barely-believable accuracy - akin to captaining a bullet through the eyes of several needles - I just can’t garner any interest for watching it.

While Formula 1 is unquestionably the most popular form of motorsport, it is frequently criticised for not featuring enough overtakes. Then, there’s rallying - a sport that is about setting the best time along a predetermined stage rather than actually overtaking opponents. Overall though, rallying is far more entertaining to watch than Formula 1, in my personal opinion.

Then, there’s Le Mans, and the world of endurance racing. Unlike an F1 race that can go on for just over an hour, Le Mans stretches itself out for 24 hours - and there’s even less overtaking action due to how cars of varying classes tend to let others go by they have no chance of competing with.

Then, there’s the 2-wheeled world of MotoGP. If it’s overtaking you’re after, then look no further. In fact, even though I don’t particular like motorcycles, I find MotoGP fantastic to watch. Back to 4 wheels, there’s the American institution that is Nascar - that also offers a tremendous amount of overtakes; although, the races do go on a bit too long for my personal liking.
Also a feature in the American racing calendar is IndyCar. The untrained eye wouldn’t be able to distinguish a Formula 1 car from an IndyCar - but the two serve rather different purposes when you analyse them properly. And finally, as a little bit of a wildcard, there’s Truck racing.
Seeing those great lumps of motorway-congesting metal, you wouldn’t think that anyone in their right mind would want to race them - but Truck racing is a thing, and it’s rather epic to see.
