Car dealer Mike Brewer and multi-talented mechanic Ant Anstead return to our UK TV screens this summer with a brand-new series of Wheeler Dealers, broadcast exclusively on Discovery Channel., starting on 31st August at 9pm!

In the new series, the dynamic duo continues to track down classic and iconic vehicles in need of some TLC, with each episode challenging the pair to restore a car to its former glory before selling it on for a profit.

Expect a lot of red cars... And some real rarities...

Expect a lot of red cars... And some real rarities...

Mike is charged with finding vehicles that have money-making potential, while master mechanic Ant can usually be found in the Wheeler Dealers workshop, working on everything from bare metal resprays to gearbox conversions.

This season zips from the sunny beaches of southern California to the coldest edges of Maine as the diverse used car market of the United States is combed for the best vehicles to buy, restore, test and eventually pass on to enthusiastic new owners.

'Old aht yer aaaand!

Ahead of the action kicking off on the 31 August, we've outlined some of the cars and jobs you can expect to see!

Episode 1 - 1969 Datsun Sports 2000

Predating Datsun's popular Z-car line, the classic Datsun Sports roadster was arguably Japan's first blue-collar export market sports car, and its sporting prowess was underlined by an enviable race record. Ant has to overhaul the front suspension, rebuild idler box, add a Volvo front brake upgrade, effect a rear drum cylinder repair, convertible frame repair, repair and ceramic-coat cracked exhaust manifold, to name but a few tasks! It's easy when you say it fast...

Episode 2 - 2001 Audi S4 Avant Quattro

Everybody loves a fast estate, and with its bi-turbo V6 and trademark quattro all-wheel drive system, the Type 8D generation S4 Avant is widely regarded as one of the most potent and capable of them all. After Mike finds a great car, Ant has his hands full, repairing a leaking valve cover, replacing the timing and serpentine belts, and even going as far to remove the dashboard cluster to access and repair the LCD screen. A few pesky dents get sorted along the way, too!

Epsiode 3 - 2001 Saab 9-3 Viggen

Inspired by the Saab 37 Viggen fighter jet, the 9-3 Viggen was the sporting flagship of Saab's 9-3 line and represented the Swedish manufacturer's first real attempt to launch an in-house performance division. With damaged body panels and seats needing repair, coolant leaks and head gasket repairs, Ant's got his work cut out - and that's before we talk about the broken exhaust studs, the non-working convertible top and dodgy suspension mounts! Could this be the only factory red Viggen left in the USA, though?

Episode 4 - 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

Just to show you how 'fresh' the show is - and how close to seeing the cars finished we are when we tune in, this episode hasn't even been finished yet! Maybe that's just because anyone who's every worked on one of these behemoths knows, when there's a problem, it's never easy - and it's never cheap! We're looking forward to seeing what struggles like ahead though, and it's amazing to think that these early Porsche SUVs are now entering the neo-classic sphere.

Episode 5 - 2004 Mazdaspeed MX-5

Available for a brief two-year period, this Mazdaspeed car has the distinction of being the only factory-built version in the history of the MX-5 to be equipped with a performance-enhancing turbocharger conversion. Ant tackles the gearbox, clutch and lightweight flywheel, while fabricating a new blow-off valve set up. A few engine tweaks promise extra performance and a little subtle resto here and there promises to add value along the way!

Episode 6 - 1979 Jeep CJ-7 Levi Edition

It comes as no surprise to discover that Jeep's partnership with Levi transformed this CJ's upholstery and soft-top, yet it became one of the most popular options of this now highly sought-after off-roader. Corrosion and a whole host of jobs sees Ant having to split the body off the chassis, sorting engine maladies and making more than a few calls to the upholsterer. Well worth the effort when you see the final result, though!

Episode 7 - 1991 Nissan 300ZX

Launched at the height of Japan's bubble economy, when optimism was sky-high and Nissan's engineers chased their dreams, the second-gen 300ZX was a technical marvel... and an engine plumbing nightmare. Ant decides to drop engine to improve access and overhaul the emissions components, before fitting new wheels and exhaust from Steve Millen, and sorting out the pesky HICAS system!

Episode 8 - The Best Of...

A collection of highlights, outtakes and behind-the-scenes footage from the series. When the next one coming then, lads?

  • Really went downhill once they moved from Edd to Ant tbh. Apparently, they wanted to cut off in-depth mechanical talk for a more Hollywood mise-en-scene (presumably for easier viewing for a wider range of audiences). That ultimately killed the show; people watched it and usually took inspiration from Edd and it felt relatable that way.

Now, it's just like every other car restoration show. So it's a no from me - a sad conclusion from a once-religious viewer of the show.

    • I know what you mean. Ant is an excellent technician and we don’t get to see enough off what he does. He’s a good replacement for Edd but the show is to American now. Having said that I’ll still watch as it’s still cars.

    • Yeh I heard that Edd refused to turn it into the Americanised reality show that the producers wanted for profits - and the programme that’s left just isn’t as good by any margin.

  • Love it and glad it’s back, ant makes a good replacement considering Edd decided he didn’t want to continue.

  • Great show, much improved...loved WD from the start and it gets better and better... Ant comes across as having far more knowledge then the old mechanic and is great. Just wish the shows were longer too see more of Mike aswell. .. well done all 👍

  • Thanks for the overview! and guys, thanks for making the show, I enjoy both old and new regardless of whether it’s in the UK or US. We should be thankful that we can still enjoy car shows that don’t have that ‘American’ feel to them (I’m a fan of a lot of those too). The only thing we are missing as I now live in Australia, is any kind of decent Australian themed car renovation type shows. It’s a shame as where I live there are hundreds of classic and future classic cars dotted around in yards, gardens and farms! ;)

    • There is always talks rumbling of some shows in other countries. Sadly, nothing in the direct pipeline right now. But Australia is always in that mix when it comes up.

Give us your top 3 over there?

    • As in shows or cars Chris? Show wise, I don’t think I have seen any. Car wise, there’s an interesting eclectic mix in Oz, of course the home grown Holdens and Fords, but I also see a lot of British and Italian classics too out and about (I...
