When The Stig Went 100mph And Set A World Record In A Dodgem
What's yoru favourite Stig moment?
I miss The Stig. It's been a long time since we've seen him accompany Clarkson, Hammond and May on an adventure, or should I say, a family member of his. And now even on the new rebooted Top Gear it looks as though The Stig is being phased out. Who needs a nameless racing driver when you have a driver as fast as Chris Harris and Sabine Schmitz?
So as the white helmeted racing driver may not be around for too much longer, I thought I'd revisit one of his greatest moments: The time he drove the fastest ever dodgem (or bumper car) and sealed a world record for himself.
The dodgem was made by YouTube's own Colin Furze - a mad engineer who makes everything from Wolverine like claws to flamethrowers.
The dodgem managed a speed of over 100mph with only 100bhp from a 600cc engine from a Honda motorbike. And of course The Stig piloting the contraption. Not bad for a thing that would barely reach 5mph before they got their hands on it.
Guinness World Records adjudicator was there at Suffolk’s Bentwaters Airfield to witness the record-breaking attempt and said, "we’re all used to seeing The Stig driving at high speed, but he’s usually in a sports car and on a race track. To see him hurtle past in a classic bumper car at 100mph was surreal, but hugely impressive."
