Well, from '60 onwards the extreme excess of the 50's started to get less. Still very beautiful cars, but just look at Cadillac for example and the rather drastic changes from '50 to '60
It depends. The 50s-late 60s were nice for the most part and the last 10 years have been good in higher end models. Hopefully we have more models come out with interesting styling (in a good way).

Can't pick best, but the current era is for sure the worst

Late 80s early 90s for me some great car design. Innovation in terms of style.
