  • I am fortunate enough to have owned all three at the same time and the GT3 Touring is a frustrating car. Of the three, the Touring is the worst “touring” car and is the last car I would choose to go on a long drive largely because (and most people won’t believe this) it’s the noisiest car inside the cabin by a considerable margin. To prove the point I measured all three cars on the same piece of road at the same time of day at three different speeds with a decibel meter mounted in exactly the same place in each car. The Touring was consistently 3-4 db louder inside...which is a lot. Now, that wouldn’t be such a problem if it was a good noise but it’s not. It’s gruff and boomy and you exit the car with a headache after only a shortish drive. Whereas the other two, while still loud inside, emit a sound that is somehow far less of a strain on the ears and the head. How come?

I put it down to three factors which may or may not be right. Firstly, the induction system on the Touring is completely different under the deck lid. The fans and the single large induction vent is located exactly the same as a regular 911 whereas the GT cars are bespoke having the fans and dual induction vents located in completely opposite positions under the lid.

Secondly, because the Touring does not have a fixed wing, I suspect that the engine sound is reflected quite differently so that you hear more of the gruff noises in the Touring and thirdly, I strongly suspect that the Touring has less sound insulation in the rear of the car....a point I aim to prove one way or another when I take out the rear carpets from the cars. Anyway, the bottom line is that the Touring stays in the garage when choosing a car for long drives.

    • You’re a lucky person! I have heard the GT3 and GT3 RS, but not the touring. Though the touring is a pretty car, I have heard that same response from others. But still, to own the GT3 trio is an amazing accomplishment.

    • Yeah. I actually saw the GT3 touring in person and the trunk is a lot bigger, hence the touring in the bame

    • The trunk in the 3 cars is exactly the same.
