Ok, so from a technical standpoint a wing is needed on a GT3 and GT3 RS to increase downforce. Of course this needs to be balanced front and back and is the reason the GT3 RS also has slates in the front fender.
From a design view it just looks cool and differentiates the Porsche GT cars from the rest of Porsches model lineup. Yeah, the GT3 touring is an exception with no wing.
But this is all getting too technical for a Saturday morning. From the 2 images below of the GT3 RS (top image) and the 2nd image of the GT3 wing do you know which is better?
Think about it... the GT3 RS is better. Why?
The bigger wing means you can see clearly out the rear window whilst in the drivers seat. Then again with 520hp and its high power to weight ratio you probably won't see many cars behind!

Hi congratulations - your post has been selected by DriveTribe performancecars Ambassador for promotion on the DriveTribe homepage.
The only advantage I see to having a wing would be to break the suck up draft on track days where there are so many novice drivers. I would rather have a driver assist package that toes the rear wheels to gain traction and help keep the trajectory of the car right. It's about the rubber to the road not the wing in the air.
But...the more downforce the more the drag on straightways and hence slower accelerations during them,if I'm honest its better to have a functional rear wing rather than a boening 787 Tailwing on the back of your Honda accord because it makes down force. Functionality over looks always
