Why are Alfas so Beloved?
A small car company from Italy that captured the heart of petrol heads.
As a lover of all things gas and rubber, Alfa Romeo has always come up when discussing which manufacturers are able to tung my heart strings. Alfa Romeo has always had a special place in my heart and rightfully so; with cars as the spider, 33 stradale and the beloved 8C, Alfa has shown to be a maker of timeless art. However, Alfas has Jeremy Clarkson always states is for connoisseurs of cars and not for the faint of heart and this holds true as Alfas have been known for their terrible electronics and questionable reliability.
I have always been a lover of Alfa Romeos despite the fact I have not seen one in New York until last year. My first encounter with Alfa Romeos was Jeremy Clarkson's review of the 8C on old Top Gear. The car was called into question by Mr. Clarkson as to if a car could be considered art and it was concluded that the Alfa 8C is art that can be driven. This simple yet powerful review of the 8C was the start of my love for this Italian manufacturer.
Through years of research into Alfa Romeo and Top Gear, Alfa Romeo was shown be makers of some of the most beautiful cars even known and as a rite of passage for any true petrolhead according to the three stooges. However, I would just take their word for it because they are my idols but it wasn't until the Alfa Romeo Disco Volante that made me realize the true extend of Alfas beauty and attraction. Considered to be a classic masterpiece of what automotive journalism is supposed to invoke in their audience, Mr.Clarkson shows hows the coach-built Alfa Romeo 8C is one of the best cars in the world. However, its the smile of Mr.Clarkson's face as he hears the rumble of that V8 or the silence you hear after he talks about how they paint the car gold before painting it red to make the color more vibrant that makes you realize the true power of Alfa Romeo has on petrolheads.
I can only hope to feel the same happiness as other petrolheads when I will be able to own my first Alfa Romeo but nonetheless it will always hold a special place in my heart. Alfa Romeo has always done things their own way regardless if it was right or wrong but that's part of their charm. It truly has captured the hearts of people all over the world and classic reviews from the three blokes only helps the love for them increase.
