Somethings been on my mind recently, small estate cars. I do not get why they’re made or why people buy them?
For example, take the Volvo V50 (a car I have to be careful writing about as my Boss owns one). Why in gods name was it put into production. Volvo already had an estate car, the V70. The V70 was a perfectly good car. It isn’t an especially big car; you won’t have trouble parking it. So why did Volvo decide to make a smaller version?
Another example; the Vauxhall Astra estate. Buy the Vectra insignia instead. You get a lot more room in the boot and in the cabin. They’re designed properly as estate cars, theyre built properly as estate cars. Not just as an Astra-Van with seats and windows.
There are so many examples of idiotic estate cars out they’re. The VW Golf estate. WHY BUY IT? Buy the Passat, you get a bigger comfier car, designed properly as an estate. It won’t be difficult to park.
Another one; The Ford Focus estate. Buy the Mondeo. As seen in the final episode of The Grand Tour, the Mondeo is a superb car loved by many petrolheads globally. So why buy a Focus estate. The Focus is one of the best-selling cars in the UK, therefore resale value is Low. Buy the Mondeo and have a better car and a better deal when you come to sell it.
However, the most stupid small estate car, by a mile, is the Skoda Fabia Estate. Whoever though it would be a good idea to make an estate version of the Skoda Fabia. The Fabia is a small car, the boot is just about big enough to put a pack of Crisps in. so why make it an estate? You may be able to fit a whole tube of Pringles in it. But there’s still not a lot of room.
The only people who have a need for a small estate car, as far as I can see, is Grandparents. Grandparents want a car big enough to fit the Grandkids in and all their stuff, but not too big to drive round every day. That’s the only logical reasons as to why someone would buy a small estate car.

Because small car running costs with lots of space! What's not to like?
Yes!! I agree. Generally they’re a lot less expensive to buy as well. However, I do love a full-size estate car...
I like small estate cars because I have two dogs and a big garden full of things to take to the tip. Plus, if I were to drive around in a large estate, I worry people may think that I’m a member of the Caravan Club and by association have a penchant for wife swapping. Simple really.
''have a penchant for wife swapping'' 😭😭😂😂😂 you killed me 😂😂
They look cooler than hatchbacks
I’m not sure about that my Vectra hatchback looks a lot better than any small estate car
Too much other stuff in the garage and need maximum storage in a car that fits? Gas mileage?
They don’t do that good on fuel. Especially if fitted with a bigger engine. With a 1.8l the Astra is really bad on fuel
Smaller insurance group, more usable space than a saloon, less road tax, more fuel economy and you can get a better spec small estate for the same money as a plain saloon and for a lot less money than an even dumber SUV.
