Why do people love coupe SUVs inspite of getting so much hate from car guys?!
I am going to tell you my perspective about it. Share your thoughts in the comments.
Why I used to hate them?
Coupe SUVs are something that most car guys including me, really love to hate. As much as I can remember, it all started with the BMW X6 that came out about a decade ago and it looked terrible! It was first of its kind and sometimes first impression of a product leaves a mark so powerful that it creates a strong idea about similar products which eventually manipulates our thoughts on them even if they are good enough. I think this is what happened to most of us as the X6 looked so awful.
The first generation BMW X6 that put all the hate in us.
Perspective about coupe SUVs
Usually, people think that coupe SUVs are SUVs with a sloping roof line which is absolutely true. But in my perspective coupe SUVs are tall sedans with SUV stances and big wheels. The most popular ones like the Merc's GLE/ GLC Coupe or the BMW X6/ X4 are very well fitted in this perspective. Honestly, the GLE looks like a E class sedan on steroids. Same goes for the others too.
So how are these type of cars gaining the popularity among the customers? Here's what I think.
The Current BMW X6
In case of aftermarket modifications, tyre upsizing is one of the most popular practices. These coupe SUVs are something that seem to be already having upsized tyres on them as they look like a sedan with big wheels, which (I think) indirectly helps them to gather more attention than proper SUVs. Here's our Clarkson's "The Excellent"- kind of a coupe SUV that most of us admired. Undoubtedly, it has more presence than most other SUVs of its time. And it fits perfectly to my perspective of sedans on steroid -
So if we liked this old one, then why won't people like the latest generation coupe SUVs? It is obviously a different and attractive body style and I feel I have started liking these cars. Well, I just talked about the design, not about other stuffs as the looks of the first generation X6 was the strongest weak-point of it to me.
