Why it's difficult to put an F1 engine in a road car
It may seem like the ideal engine swap, but it certainly comes with a load of issues
Let me take you through the dream engine swap – taking a thoroughbred F1 engine and putting it straight into a regular road car.
It may seem like the ultimate powertrain to have in your car, but that highly-strung block is going to have its issues in day-to-day driving.
Who wouldn't want a Ferrari V10 from a Schumacher car slotted into their Ferrari road car?
But with the Mercedes-AMG One on the horizon, sporting the engine from Lewis Hamilton's old F1 car, this dream may just become a reality.
This thing could be a huge leap forward

Not sure many would appreciate running hot oil thru it for 20 minutes before starting, reving to 6000rpm to let the clutch out, 10,000rpm shifts, and 4 miles per gallon. Most of the things that make a race car great, make a road car awful.
Nail. on. Head.
McLaren Senna with Ayrton Senna's MP4-4's engine
I was thinking that same engine but in the P1 instead
Senna's Car's Engine in Senna 😁
F1 engines arent meant for road use and never will be. Id rather have a LFA V10 in my car.
Lada + Mecedes f1 engine
That would be pretty pointless. F1 cars are extremely light, F1 engines don't produce good enough torque in the low rpm ranges and not to mention, you need to pump hot oil prior starting the engine...
