Why Mercedes Spark Plugs Fire 5 Times
How Mercedes MultiSpark Ignition Improves Combustion Efficiency
Mercedes Multi-spark Ignition (MSI) is designed to fire the spark plug 5 times (sequentially) every power stroke in scenarios where the gas pedal isn't pressed much and the engine RPM is low. In these low load, low RPM scenarios, it's more efficient, more stable, and more consistent when running a multi-spark ignition methodology versus the traditional single spark ignition. Check out the video for full details on how this system works, and why it's more efficient!

Interesting
Multispark ignition has been around for some time. It was a "big thing" in single coil ignition days. A company called MSD comes to mind. These days, cars come with individual coil packs and computers effective doing the same thing. There's also "lost spark" where the plugs fire on the exhaust stroke. We've come quite a long way from points, rotors and condensers.
Neat!🖤
