Why Scania is amazing
My number 1 favourite lorry brand; Scania, they're Swedish and incredibly cool, and I hope I can persuade you.
First, a brief history of the brand. Established in 1911, with their headquarters in Södertälje, Scania Vabis was a result of a merger between two other brands. They started making engines, lorries and luxury cars. During World War One, most outputs were lorries for the Swedish Army, and after the war, they decided to ditch building cars and focus more on lorries.
Gaining market share, production was expanded in different countries within Europe. In 1968, Vabis name was ditched and the brand was simply called Scania. After selling around 12 000 diesel engines to Mack, Scania entered the US market in the mid-80s.
In all these years, Scania had flirted with some different brands, they merged with Saab in 1969, forming Saab-Scania, and divorced in 1995. After the divorce, Scania went on Tinde... uhh the stock market, which resulted in some failures, Volvo tried to take them over in 1999 but failed. MAN tried to do the same thing with the same non-existing result. There was one brand, however, that gained some gain from all these failures; VW AG, which bought Volvo's shares in 2000, and from 2008 VW AG was the majority shareholder. And from 2015 Scania was fully owned by VW AG.
Scania R series
introduced in 2004, the R series was the biggest lorries Scania offered, optimised for long haulage. Winning the international truck of the year award both in 2005 and 2010 proves the quality. Top of the range is one of my favourites, it's basically a Swedish lorry Ferrari California; it's red and has a V8. This Scania is THE lorry you want, a 16.4L V8 diesel produces 730 hp and 3500 Nm torque, POWEEERRRR. And it looks amazing, especially the second generation from 2016 is absolutely stunning, it looks like it eats cars for breakfast, lunch, dinner and in-between.
Scania T series
These are the torpedo nosed Scania, I adore torpedo noses, it's such a huge shame that we get mostly cab overs in Europe. Fun fact, this is because of the European law that there is a maximum amount of combined length, and a torpedo nose simply takes more metres, which means less trailer length. The EU is slowly coming back from this decision, the maximum length is slowly increasing, mainly because of better design opportunities related to aero and safety. But I just care about the plain coolness of these.
Construction
More ground clearance, bigger tires, bottom protection, these components are what makes lorries adapted for construction and off-road work incredibly cool. My absolute favourite in this category is the Volvo FMX. I mean, just look at it.
just look at it
But this doesn't mean Scania isn't able to achieve this level of coolness in their construction lorries. I'll stop typing now and let the photos do the talking.

I’ll have to read this later on (I’ve spent my lunch putting tyres on my car)
lmao
was it tiring?
🤣 it’s been a tiring day! (Slept in, tyres through lunch, afternoon of a car too tall for the lift it was on, so hand to crouch, and finished 30 minutes late, and now my dad wants me to help him move a 100kg heater!)
I wish the T series was found in the UK, it looks so good
Yess ikr!
There's some T series driving around in the Netherlands, mainly by enthusiasts
Well the sad part is Scania failed in the US
I am a MASSIVE Scania fan. My favourite truck brand. Wish they came to North America. There are three Scanias in Canada I am familiar with but they were all imported and are used by owner operators so they don’t belong to a company.
Oooh niceee, it's my favourite one too, by far
Woah that sucks😔
