Why some people don't like Lewis Hamilton

Do some of these surprise you?

1w ago

Now as everyone should know by now, Lewis Hamilton, is a British Formula One driver who has driven for Mercedes F1 for many successful seasons. Hamilton has - so far - had a spectacular career with 180 podiums with 286 Grand Prixs entered. So it make as a surprise to some of you readers as to why Lewis Hamilton has a fair amount of haters as the Media would call it.

1. He's one of the main drivers on the podium in almost every race

Well let's start off basic with one that is the main reason why people will begrudge Hamilton as people will get tired of seeing him winning races or at least getting a place on the podium all of the time. I asked somebody why they thought this and they replied with this, "It's like watching the same TV series over and over again. When you watch it you lose all the excitement as you know what's going to happen in every episode, it's the same with F1 I have lost interest due Hamilton beating everyone all the time."

Now he may be correct in the majority of what he said but recently. The reason behind why people don't like him for winning as well is because he doesn't give a chance for other other potentially brilliant drivers a chance to win or get a podium. Now there are other people who dominate races too like Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas but they weren't as successful over all as Hamilton so far in their careers only in the recent seasons have they become mainstream drivers.

Now although Redbull has faster cars than Mercedes the cars in general are just so much better and this another correlation as to Hamilton is on the podium all the time due to people believing he is only this good as he has what some fans like to call an 'overpowered' car and go onto mention how this is unfair as drivers for Williams and Alfa Romeo don't really bag any points onto the leaderboard as their cars aren't as good as Mercedes ones and they want more restrictions in place for the bigger teams. I can understand this but I can't see this happening anytime soon.

2. He heavily supports the LGBTQ+ community

Now this one maybe very controversial. Personally, I don't see anything wrong with him supporting LGBT but some people dislike Hamilton due to his advertisement of the LGBTQ+ community as something that should all embrace. Even in places like the Middle East where countries like Qatar don't embrace LBGTQ+ communities and certainly don't consider it as a good thing and isn't part of their culture and in other countries around the world, torture those who turn out to be supporting or actually be homosexual so you could probably see why some fans from those area don't like him very much.

Everywhere he goes he talks about it whether it's on social media, in interviews or face to face with other people, he expresses his support for that community including places like Qatar and other countries that are against LGBTQ+. I understand this is a sensitive topic for some so I won't go on about it too much.

3. Discrimination

Why is this still a thing? This isn't right but some people feel the need to take to their Twitter and post racist abuse about other people of other races and ethnicities. It's utterly disgusting and shouldn't even be a reason for not liking Hamilton (or any person in fact of a different race) but you would be surprised at how many people hate on Hamilton because of discrimination against his skin colour.

I would like to conclude by talking about Lewis Hamilton from my perspective. He is a talented driver and has been racing for a very good team in a good car but I do see why people don't like him for winning all the time as it gets boring and other teams don't even stand a chance of winning but for the other two reasons like supporting LGBTQ+ and being of a different race and ethnicity is not acceptable. He's a talented driver and should deserve respect regardless of whether you don't like him.

  • I don't like Hamilton myself, his persona is really negative from my view and I can't support it.

But if people are deciding they don't like him cuz they are 1.salty 2. homophobic or 3. racist, then I'm fairly confident they are the problem๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคš๐Ÿป

  • Hamilton is now no different than certain Hollywood actors who see their fame as an equivalent of a political soapbox to spew opinions and be an attention whore pandering to whatever groups/movements are popular in the news. Just shut up and drive.

  • I also just donโ€™t like him no taking away his skill he is a brilliant driver although not the greatest ever. What I dislike more though are the Hamilton fan boys/girls who think everything he does is the greatest ever. Itโ€™s my opinion and like ass holes everyone has one

    • I think people disliking him because he is black or his LGTB or black lives matters views are just bell ends and I will admit it is boring having the same person at the top it was the same with Vettel and Schumacher so will allow that

  • I think it's because of the people that kiss up to everything he does plus some argue he's a hypocrite since he preaches about the climate then drives a nice F1 car every fortnight.

  • Some people feel the need to strike out against a dominant personality and the easiest way for them to do it is what is different about that person from the aggressor. If it is race, sex, lifestyle choice, physical appearance that makes the other person different it is easy for someone to vent or strike out and that is unacceptable. Everyone should be treated equally and given equal respect.

Yes we get tired of LH winning all the time, BUT, he did leave a winning team for Mercedes and that was a huge risk similar to Schumacher going to Ferrari. I admire Lewis for everything he has accomplished and I am sure he had an even more difficult time to get to the top because of his race. He went to Ron Dennis and convinced Ron to sponsor him to get to the top and that also should be admired. He had driving skills and business skills at that age, WOW!
