I grew up with an xj in the family and ill tell you I really put it to the test as a ruthless teen driver. True story, I once drove it off a dirt jump and landed it on a park bench in which it came out relatively unscathed aside from some dents on front bumper. They are pretty much unbreakable. We eventually ended up selling it after 12 years of ownership and about 300,000kms with literally no problems to report.
Same. I beat the crap out of mine (also as a teenager) and it kept coming back for more.
a mk1 land rover discovery can also put up with alot abuse like this model JEEP only issue they have is in the engine and electric department. Still they are more reliable than the discovery 2 that followed the first generation.
Doug DeMuro is a scourge upon the internet. I can tell you why people love Jeep XJs - what I CAN’T figure out is why Doug has a voice in the car community. Can his undeserved, uneducated, clueless, effeminate 15 minutes be over now?

My 1990 xj was unbeatably rugged, and if it did need fixing, you only needed a paper clip, duct tape and chewing gum. It would go anywhere I pointed it.
I guess, if street performance is your thing .... I agree, total crap.
