Why the SEAT Mii electric could be the affordable EV we've all been waiting for
The new SEAT Mii electric opened for UK ordering on 24th October. This battery-powered supermini is SEAT's first car in its new electric campaign, as the Spanish brand shifts towards the changing market.
So what's so special about the Mii electric? For a start, it enters the segment as one of the most affordable electric vehicles (EVs). This gives the everyday driver a chance to make the eco-friendly switch without having to fork out another £10k + for rivals, such as the e-Golf.
Starting at £19,300, the Mii is one of the cheapest EVs for sale at this moment
Just because its cheap, don't think that it'll drag its heels. Powering this cutsey hatchback is an electric motor that produces 83 horsepower and 212Nm of torque instantly, making for a brisk 0-31 mph launch in just 3.9 seconds - perfect for beating the everyday gas-guzzler off the traffic lights.
The Mii's instant power will make for fun city driving
The car's 36.8kWh lithium-ion battery pack promises to provide up to 161 miles of range on a single charge, based on test cycles. The Mii comes with an AC 7.2kW home charger that takes four hours to reach 80% full, and rapid DC 40.kW charging will achieve the same percentage in just one hour.
The Mii is expected to be a sales success with new, younger drivers
Richard Harrison, the Managing Director of SEAT UK said: “The arrival of Mii electric marks the start of a comprehensive programme to electrify the SEAT range, which will see further electrified models arriving in 2020. Mii electric is the ideal first step into full electric motoring, and we’ve made it even easier for the first 300 customers, by including a free home charger, free servicing and free metallic paint, with a very attractive monthly PCP payment (of £199 per month). But you’ll have to be quick as we expect customer demand to outstrip available production.”
To make the prospect of owning the Mii electric even more appealing, the first 300 customers to place an order before 31st December 2019 will receive a rapid wall box charger installed at home, a standard home plug charger and three years servicing and roadside assistance free of charge.
