Why, Yes, The BMW i3 Can Do Rallying
Small, torquey, RWD--the magic formula
Lots of people do not like the BMW i3, for whatever reason. They may say it is ugly and slow. To some degree, they are correct. But not to such a degree that it cannot be taken drifting around a dirt track by Finnish rally legend Rauno Aaltonen, and do very well.
I live in a very eco-friendly city where Teslas are a dime a dozen (even a couple Model 3s), and as such I see at least two BMW i3s per hour, but not a single one of them has ever done something this cool, which is sad.
Look at this one go, though. It's doing such a good job. Aaltonen notes that the electric torque is what makes it so good, especially when you're drifting at such low speeds where it matters much more than raw power. I've wanted an i3 for a long time, and if I somehow win the lottery and find myself in need of a little city car, you bet I'll be picking one up.
