Will Loeb´s Pikes Peak Record be broken this weekend?

We might be onto the Dawn of a New Era at the mythic U.S. HillClimb. But until then let´s rewatch this piece of Motorsports History

Of the many feats that can be accomplished on Hillclimb Racing, not many can compare with winning Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Even less can compare with having the All Time Overall record on said Legendary race.

But that´s exactly what 9-time World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb achieved on 2013 with the help of Peugeot Sport. Onboard the unvelievable 875Hp/875Kg, 4wd, 3.2L Twin Turbo Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak Special, the French Ace posted a ground-breaking 8.13:878, which to this day stands as the overall record on the Colorado Springs-based event.

Well, now that 5 years passed since this Record Run, progress brought us to a point where we might be about to watch History get rewritten by another French Driver and another Manufacturer backed effort. Romain Dumas is at the wheel of the fully Electric Volkswagen ID-R Pikes Peak prototype and if Qualifying Times are anything to go by (and remember that Pikes Peak Qualification only uses roughly the first Half of the course..), we might watch something outrageous this Sunday.

Turns out this curious looking thing was over 10 seconds faster than Mr. Loeb while qualifying first for the 2018 Edition of Pikes Peak Hill Climb... So what is your predition? Will we see history be made once again or is the challenge of piecing together a Record Run on a gargantuan Hill Climb like Pikes Peak too much for the Fully Electric Monster of Volkswagen Motorsport?
