Will the SC18 Alston be the first of many one-off Lamborghinis?
While it may be a complete one-off, there's no reason why I can't spawn other unique hypercar projects.
If you venture here with the desire to learn just how fast this spaceship some call a Lamborghini is, then I’m afraid you’re out of luck. Instead, you’ll have to take a mild diversion towards the article written by Natasha Cramer, which you can read by clicking here. In this blog however, the emphasis isn’t so much on what the car can do, but rather what it could potentially mean for the company moving forward.
While Ferrari and McLaren are companies familiar in the art of the one-off specials, such machines have thus far evaded Lamborghini’s interest. Insofar as why that may be is linked to the reason behind why unique hypercars come into existence in the first place: through the request of a particularly special client. And with that, you really do have to ask yourself: will the SC18 Alston inspire other ultra-wealthy Lamborghini aficionados to pursue the build of something bespoke to them?
It is the aesthetics that will be entrusted with such a job, and through my eyes, the SC18 looks like the sort of thing Lamborghini would be producing if they existed long ago, in a galaxy far, far away. It is a Carth Vader; something that resides truly on the dark side of motoring. With the vibrant red accents pronounced from the subtle carbon grey, you get the impression that driving it requires the use of the force. But metaphors aside, I think it looks utterly spectacular.
The temptation to look within its eyes and see pure evil staring back at you is something the colour scheme contributes towards. After all, if this were a series production car, each example would be painted differently, and therefore each would have its own flavour. But with the SC18 being a complete one-off, we’re only ever going to see its unique lines painted in Kylo Ren colours.
The beauty of custom builds however is that they don’t necessarily have to radiate the same devilish attributes as this car; they are a canvas to the customer’s vision of what they want their car to be. The SC18 is the first car that will inspire people’s imaginations into envisioning their perfect custom Lamborghini - and you can be damn sure that it won’t be the last. While the Aventador may be the car that people look to as the most suitable candidate for their tailored raging bull, with the updated Huracan soon to enter production, I also expect Lamborghini’s baby will be the subject for a one-off supercar in the future.
Just out of curiosity, would you approach Lamborghini and request they build you a custom hypercar if you were in the position? Let me know in the comments.
