For the past year, we have all been lockdown in our homes and very few of us have been able to travel or drive in this process due to the coronavirus. With vaccination and the beginning of lifting restrictions, we can start making road plans. So, in this series, I'm going to write about roads from all over the world with amazing sceneries that will make driving even more enjoyable.

1. Atlantic Ocean Road, Norway

The Atlantic Road is also known as "The Road in The Ocean". It connects the islands of Averøy with the mainland via eight bridges over 8.3 kilometers. The road has National Tourist Route status, and it gives you one of the most spectacular coastal scenery. Along the Atlantic Road, you can park your car at designated viewing points and take a walk. Also, you can hire equipment to go fishing or diving. The natural surroundings and shape of the road combine to create a popular site for filming car advertisements.

Due to its location, the Atlantic Road has won several awards. In 2006, The Guardian called the road “the world’s best road trip”. In 2007, Lonely Planet decided to find the perfect place to go after a break-up and called the road the best place to mend a broken heart. Also, in 2007, it was called the most beautiful car journey by the Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten. In 2011, it was called "the world's best place for car testing" by Fifth Gear.

2. Amalfi Coast Road, Italy

Amalfi Coast Road takes its name from the Amalfi Coast between Sorrento and Salerno. The road follows the shoreline and connects all the villages and towns of the Amalfi Coast. It's a 50-kilometer road of narrow and winding. Also, the coast was awarded for World Heritage Site in 1997 by UNESCO.

The best time for driving the Amalfi Coast Road is mid-September to October and. April and early May. If you choose to travel in summer, go early in the morning to avoid the crowd. Along the road, you can enjoy panoramic turquoise sea views, hillside villages, and coastal routes.

The winding road and its surroundings give you a unique driving experience. Along the road, there are few spots you can visit, like Poenari Castle Ruins, Vidraru Lake, and Dam Balea Lake. The road is closed to the public from September to late spring due to weather conditions.
