Wrack race: sign yourself up & wipe others out
What do you know about the automotive culture in Poland? I bet, not much. Because Poland is far from the place you live. And if something is far, then – as a rule – it is not interesting.
But I wanna tell you about one bold exception!
There is a certain type of races in Poland which seems to be the world’s unique! The wrack races!
These are the free to public events taking place bimonthly in Mysiadło, near Warsaw, on an off-road track. The idea behind the wrack races is very simple and democratic. You go to the scrapyard, take the abandoned car, make it run again and sign up for the race. In other words, literary anyone can become a racer as it is very cheap to get a proper vehicle. Also, literally no one cares of the drivability of the vehicle after the race. All this means that the vehicle can be painlessly destroyed in a heroic funeral on a track. And then returned to the scrapyard.
To make the wrack race even more accessible, any interested visitor can buy the ready-to-go vehicle on the spot. In the auction. The price for such vehicle does not usually exceed €150. Once again, mates. You come, pay €150, buy the car, join the race (or a few races, if you are good enough), have fun and bring the ruined car back to the seller. Who is often the scrapyard owner. On the top of that, the money you paid for the car will be transferred for charity needs (f.e. to support the child's orphanage).
