That's right you can now order a brand new Peel P50 from factory, and it's road legal!!

A company based out of London now own the rights to the world's smallest car and you can now buy one starting at just £8,250. That will get you a gutsy all-electric Peel with a 50 mile range, and a top speed of 30 MPH!! However, if you are willing to splurge a little you can go for one of two petrol engines; £1,249 for the smaller engine, and a whopping £4,245 for the bigger 124 cc 4-Stroke engine.

You have several options when buying your new Peel, a do it yourself kit, a factory-built P50, a spacious 2-seater Peel Trident, and best of all a limited edition Spyder version of the car originally built for a Saudi Prince.

The cars are true recreations of the original, and at just £8,250 they are one hell of a deal. I say this because an original P50 can go for as much as $200,000 at auction. Not to mention that a brand-new Peel might be just that little bit safer.

The interesting bit

Look, I get it £8,250 is a lot of money for a glorified shopping cart. However, what if I told you that if you live in the United States you could have a brand-new all electric P50 for just $1,100.

That's right because as of now Peel will sell you a brand-new P50 for $10,600. However, the U.S. has a system of tex-rebates for all new electric "cars" sold. Specifically, the federal government will give you $7,500 for your eco-car, and states such as New York can give anywhere from $2,000 to $3,000 on top of that. The only requirements being; that the vehicle in question is a production car, and that it has a range of at least 25 miles. All of which the P50 meets.

The logic behind all this is quite simple. For the time being electric cars are more expensive than their gasoline-powered counterparts. So to boost mass-adoption the Federal and State governments will supplement that difference.

As a result of all this if you order an electric P50 in America you will get one hell of a deal, and you will most certainly be having the time of your life.

  • Now hold on, the base model Dacia Sandero is something like £6000. Isn't £8000 for a motorized Little Tikes kind of outrageous?

    • It is outrageous! You get Renault parts and Romanian build quality for 6 grand. But for an even smaller car you pay 8 grand and no Renault parts or sponsoring by James May!
