If you are a tech and car enthusiast today is your lucky day, McLaren just released 'it's' first smartphone created in partnership with OnePlus, it's bases on the One Plus 6t.

The Looks & The Specs

If you are the type to keep on top of the smartphone news, you will know that the OnePlus 6t is a 'flagship phone' from OnePlus ready to rival the likes Apple, Samsung and Huawei in the high end smartphone game.

OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition front is dominated by a 6.4 inch AMOLED display, with only a small droplet notch housing the selfie camera disturbing the view. On the back it features the McLaren Papaya Orange on the edges and a carbon-fibre pattern, the dual 20 and 16 megapixels cameras are positioned in the upper middle of the phone. On the bottom sits the all important McLaren logo.

McLaren edition turns the regular 6T into even more of a speed and performance monster. With 10GB of Ram it outclasses all of the available smartphones on the market and makes some budget gaming computers blush. The allready pretty good 3700mAh battery from the 6t now gets 'Warp Charge 30' fast charging system, which uses a 30W adapter to provide “a day’s power in 20 minutes”.

It comes with 256 GB of internal storage, plenty for all your music, film, games and other apps. It uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 CPU and Adreno 630 GPU as the regular 6t, if that doesn't tell you much then don't worry, all you need to know is that these components firmly keep it amongst the best in class.

On the software side, the McLaren edition is mostly the same using the latest Android Pie OS, but feautures animations and design elemetns unique to the McLaren edition.

The Awesome Price

Most people will buy this phone for the McLaren brand rather than its specs or performance, as per usual there is a bit of a premium that comes with that, but it's smaller than you might imagine. At £649 it's only around £70 more than the top of the range 6t, and for that extra cash you not only get the McLaren logo on the back of your phone, but also even more performance from what's already a class leading phone in terms of raw speed and proccesing power. Very fitting title for a device wearing the McLaren logo and colours.

At that price it's still a lot cheaper than top of the range Iphone or Samsung while offering just as good performance. Combined with the hikes Porsche and Lamborghini put on phones with their brand image on, the 6T Mclaren looks like a bit of a brand conscious car and tech lover bargain!

  • So it simply isn't an actual McLaren-phone...

  • It's worth it alone for the higher performance. OnePlus is steadily becoming a serious contender in mobile phones; this is them just cracking their knuckles.

    • Agreed, I just wish it had a better camera, untill then I will have to stick to the Huawei brand

  • I wouldn’t mind the bone stock phone but I would find the McLaren branding a little embarrassing (though I do really like McLaren)

  • Brands at work clearly, if you forget the brand name, which we it half a descent phone? If so then by all means yes, otherwise this reminds me of novelties for which the pricing is rather steep

  • I would love this, yet I can not justify spending that much on a phone... even I can't!
