The Ford F-250 Super Duty is a staple of heavy-duty American pickup trucks. It's been around for decades now and the latest iteration of the truck is available with one of the most monstrous engines currently put into any production car. That engine would be a 7.3-liter pushrod petrol V8 affectionately known as the 'Godzilla' engine. It's hard to believe that this absolute behemoth of an engine is a fairly new design and yet not only is that the case, but now you can get 'Godzilla' for yourself in crate form!

The 'Godzilla' V8 will set you back $8150 and what that money gets you is a simple yet incredibly tough unit with a cast-iron block, aluminium cylinder heads and a forged steel crankshaft. What that ends up giving you is a power output of 425 hp at 5,500 rpm and (more impressively) 475 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. The crate package also includes all the necessary extra gubbins to make sure the engine will fit in and work such as the intake manifold and throttle body, exhaust manifolds, an oil pan and oil cooler, ignition coils, a flex plate and a storage cradle. Whilst the initial power figures for the 'Godzilla' might not seem that impressive, you have to remember that the aftermarket will be all over this thing now that it's available in crate form. There have already been reports of them being able to exceed 500 hp with the right modifications...

With the hilarious size and huge potential for tuneability, it'll only be a matter of time before we start seeing project cars and project trucks powered by the distinctive V8 roars of the 'Godzilla' rolling out of garages and warehouses all over the world. Whilst I reckon that the majority of 'Godzilla' crates will go towards people who want to create a ridiculous project truck, it could be quite fun to see what boutique car manufacturers do with it. It could be quite a fun powerplant for something that's supposed to be like a classic muscle car, or for some kind of ridiculous project dreamed up by Hennessey (who would probably also work out how to get it into the 700+ hp regions). As things stand, the world really is Godzilla's oyster!

  • I once had a Suburban with the 8.1L Vortec. THAT was a monster. Drank down nectar faster than a college student on spring break.

  • I have no idea why anyone would swap this instead of an LS, but if i did, I’d find a way to put it in the back of a Fiero.
