You could now own the most rugged Chevy to ever grace the off-road

But is it enough to take on the Ford Raptor?

Can you recall the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison? Launched in 2018 as Chevrolet’s first collaboration with premium off-road aftermarket manufacturer American Expedition Vehicles (AEV), the Bison variant upped the Colorado ZR2’s ante, albeit just a little, by deploying rugged steel bumpers, AEV designed wheels and fender flares and steel skid plates to protect the underbelly from scraping. Not the most comprehensive mechanical makeover then. However, that appears to be the case no more with AEV’s latest package offering.

Priced at $11,949 atop the $48,000 asking price for the Colorado ZR2 Bison donor car, the Montana based aftermarket manufacturer is now giving out a ZR2 Bison package which embeds the much-needed mechanical prowess back into the car. This should render the pickup truck competent of the capabilities it previously advertised.

The package incorporates a host of mechanical upgrades including the likes of a 4.10:1 differential gear upgrade, a Chevrolet performance suspension levelling kit, a tire pressure monitoring system, a recalibrated speedometer, a tie rod sleeve kit and a set of BFGoodrich 35-inch tires.

Doubling up with this Bison package is the cosmetic appeal of this car as AEV is providing almost another layer of AEV branding throughout the truck. This comprises of an AEV HighMark fender flares, an AEV instrument cluster along with an AEV build plaque somewhere inside the cabin. The off-roading specialist’s belief in its list of offered parts extends to a point where it is offering a Limited Lifetime Warranty as well!

And if you share a similar belief in their parts and wish to equip more optional off-road spec components, there is an intake snorkel, a winch package along with a light bar mounting kit on sale as well!

With the final product retailing around at roughly $60,00 mark, its still cheaper than the Ford F-150 Raptor and the RAM 1500 TRX. Does that make this Chevy Colorado ZR2 Bison with AEV package a significant contender? Comment your thoughts below!

  • I am not a Colorado fan. This is more a Ford Ranger Raptor sized pickup.

I have zero doubt that Chevrolet is working on a TRX, And Raptor fighter on the Silverado.

I am sure that GM, and probably even Ford, though the Raptor was nothing more a niche vehicle before it continued to sell more and more.

Then FCA built the Ram TRX.

The American big three loves nothing more than a war (Camaro, Mustang, Challenger for example) and we all benefit.

    Let the competition begin

    • Agreed! They've always tried to be at war with each other but I love their battles

Also, if the Colorado is a rival to the Ranger, what's Chevy's answer to the F-150? Is it Silverado?

    • Yes the Silverado is a Full size truck like the Ram 1500, and F150.

  • This looks ok. I like that the front end isn’t too big. But it only looks ok and I cannot explain why.
