You Know What Grinds My Gears?...Car Manufacturers using Concept Cars in Adverts

The cars are not for sale, yet they use them in adverts and it has to stop.

Ok I know it isn't exactly a huge issue but, I am fed up of car manufacturers doing all these glitzy adverts showing how amazing they are with these cars - yet at the bottom in little writing it states 'Concept Car not for sale'.

I can name at least two manufacturers off the top of my head who are so guilty of this it should be criminal. Audi & Toyota both currently have adverts running in the U.K showing cars (sometimes multiple cars) which you cannot buy because they are only concept cars. Another thing while I think of it, Audi are running adverts in the U.K featuring cars that you cannot buy in the U.K - this is another issue for another time, but I want you to know that hasn't passed me by either.

Audi Elaine Concept Car (Thank your preferred god that is only a concept with a name like that).

I digress, where was I? Ah yes! I am not picking on Audi nor Toyota, as I sure others are up to it and I am just not watching enough TV to notice - but surely watching an advert is painful enough without having to watch something you probably have no interest in, nor can buy even if you wanted to. Of course you want to see what car manufacturers can do with their cars, but a 30 second advert isn't going to give you all the answers...so I do not see the point.

I could be totally wrong and massively misunderstanding adverts, but to me I want to see what I can buy now, not in 10 years time - which by that time things change so much, the thing they showed you 10 years ago is now out of date and looks nothing like it. I have a perfect example of this below.

Ford Iosis Concept Car which was the ground work for the Ford Kuga.

The Ford Iosis would later turn out to be the Ford Kuga. Most of us have seen plenty of Ford Kugas to know, they look nothing like this. However, this is ok as Ford never put this car in an advert to sell cars, but then say 'oh but you can't buy this lol'. It is kinda like here is what you could have won (if it wasn't a concept car and we decided to stop dicking around). I have used that Ford concept car as an example as I class it as a rare one but could be wrong. I certainly didn't see it on the TV.

I don't know who is responsible for putting these cars in adverts? It could be the marketing teams thinking they are clever or a high up exec....and I don't care just stop it and make cars for us mortals to buy!

Totally pointless rant I am sure other people have noticed and didn't have the energy to moan about it. Luckily for you I have no life and need no excuse to moan.

  • I couldn’t agree more. I don’t care what you CAN do, I care what you WILL do.
